Ynyshir Cenotaph

We are please to announce that work at the Cenotaph is now nearing completion.

New railings and gates have been erected, and the Ynyshir Gardening Club Ladies have been busy spending money on new plants, bulbs and other foliage, which they have planted in the new ground at the Cenotaph.

A new black marble tablet has been affixed to the front of the Cenotaph with gold lettering copying exactly the words that had been engraved on the original stone which is now eroding, and matched exactly the small black tablet at the base.

Many members of the Community have expressed their pleasure at the improvement at the Cenotaph and their thanks are greatly appreciated.

It is now hoped that the Cenotaph area will be completed in all its glory in readiness for Armistice Day on Thursday, November 11 and the Remembrance Day Parade on Sunday, November 14.

Gardening club spokeswoman Margaret Lush said, “The Ynyshir Branch of the Royal British Legion asked us if we could spruce up the cenotaph and we were delighted to help”.

This project was possible by a grant of £8,631.55 from the Communities First Trust Fund and with help from volunteers in the community.

Ynyshir Football Stand

The new stand at the Ynyshir Oval has been completed.

The Ynyshir Albion Football team needed their home ground upgraded so they could get promoted to the next league. The main thing they needed was a Stand.

After many meetings and fund raising by themselves they managed to raise the funds to build their Stand. All the team got involved, one player did the plans and others laid the blocks. Eventually the stand was completed.

There have been some problems with the work as most of the players worked during the day could only work on the project in the evenings and weekends. Blocks would be delivered during the day and when they went to do the work local vandals had smashed the blocks.

Total cost of the project was over £10,000. The Senior Football team applied for funds from the Communities First Trust Fund of £5,000 and raised a further £5,000 themselves by selling Beefburgers & Hotdogs at their home fixtures as well as selling programmes.

This project took a lot of teamwork as the Football Team did the Plans and built the Stand themselves to keep the cost down. Well done to them all for a fine team effort and good luck for the future.

Security Marking Kits - Working With The Community

As recently advertised in the local newspaper a new security marker loan system has been launched through libraries in the fight against crime.

Ynyshir & Wattstown Communities First office has also been designated to hold one of these kits.

Kits containing an ultraviolet marker pen and tools to etch your postcode on a valuable item such as a stereo or TV will be available in the office from this month.

The idea by Rhondda Cynon Taff crime reduction panels is to encourage people to security-mark their valuable property so if their home is burgled there is some way of tracing the items back to them.

The kits come inside a plastic case similar to a videotape case with instructions for use and will be available on loan for a limited time only from the Communities First office in Ynyshir.

All you need to do is telephone the office 01443 686610 or mobile 07786 523 982 and ask if the kit is available. If so you can come along and collect it that day or if it isn’t available you can go on a waiting list and we will telephone you when the kit becomes available.

CRIME, LET’S BRING IT DOWN.
